Lithium iodide hydrate is a chemical compound that is used as an antidote in cases of severe lithium toxicity. It binds to the lithium ion and prevents it from reaching the brain, which is where it would cause seizures. Lithium iodide hydrate has been shown to be effective when administered rectally or intravenously with a dose of 5-10 mg/kg. The side effects are minimal and include nausea and vomiting, which are usually self-limiting. Lithium iodide hydrate can also be used to detoxify enzymes by binding to them. For example, polyclonal antibodies bind to the antigen and eliminate it from the body. It also has been shown that water molecule formation is facilitated by lithiium iodide hydrate, which may lead to better understanding of how water vapor behaves during cell culture experiments.
