L-Valine b-naphthylamide is an amide compound with a chromogenic group at the N-2 position. It can be synthesized by condensation of 2-naphthylamine and L-valine, followed by hydrolysis of the ester. The carboxy group at the N-1 position is a good leaving group for nucleophilic addition reactions, making it useful in peptide synthesis. The amino group at C-2 makes this compound a good ligand for metal ions, which can be used to form complexes with other organic molecules.
