Lobenzarit disodium is a drug that belongs to the class of antirheumatic drugs. It is an activated form of propranolol hydrochloride, a non-selective beta blocker. Lobenzarit disodium has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DBA) in vitro and in vivo. Lobenzarit disodium has also been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the production of cytokines and inhibiting the proliferation of cells that are involved in inflammation. Lobenzarit disodium can also inhibit proximal tubule cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit amino transferase activity. Lobenzarit disodium has also been shown to have toxicity studies involving rats and mice, where it was found that toxic effects were observed at high doses but not at low doses.
