Leucine benzyloxycarbonylhydrazide trifluoroacetate (LBCH) is an esterase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, such as hyperacidity and peptic ulcers. It inhibits the enzyme pepsin, which is needed for protein digestion and the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. LBCH has been shown to inhibit gastric secretion by interfering with gastrin release from the duodenum. This drug also inhibits secretin release from the pancreas. LBCH has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of pancreatic enzymes by blocking their active sites.
