Leu-Val-OH is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHNO. It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in rats and to inhibit angiotensinogen in vitro. Leu-Val-OH is also an inhibitor of bacterial regulatory proteins, such as LacI. This drug inhibits the binding of regulatory proteins to DNA by steric hindrance, leading to the production of specific proteins that regulate gene expression. Leu-Val-OH also has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. The inhibition of bacterial growth may be due to its ability to bind to isosteres that are found in bacterial ribosomes.
