Product Information
- Z-L-leucyl-L-phenylalanine
Z-Leu-Phe-OH is a low potency histidine containing peptide that has been shown to have anti-leishmanial activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Leishmania in rat kidneys, and also has physiological functions such as the regulation of blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and kidney function. Z-Leu-Phe-OH has been shown to be an amide with a kinetic half life of 10 minutes. The renal proximal tubules are the main site of metabolism for this drug. Hydrogen bonds between the side chains in this molecule stabilize its structure and allow it to diffuse across cell membranes. This drug also has proteolytic activity against proteins such as albumin, alpha 1 antitrypsin, and beta 2 microglobulin in vitro. Histological analysis shows that Z-Leu-Phe-OH does not affect renal morphology or function in rats with a renal transplantation model.
