Lithium oxalate is a salt of lithium and oxalate that is used as an experimental model for hydrogen bonding interactions in metal hydroxides. Lithium oxalate crystals are generated by the reaction of anhydrous sodium with oxalic acid, which is then boiled to produce a crystalline cellulose. The crystalline cellulose has been investigated using x-ray diffraction data to help understand the molecular structure. It has also been shown that zirconium oxide can be synthesized from lithium oxalate. The thermodynamic data for this compound have also been determined and are available in the analytical method section below.
