Product Information

Name:
Lithium tartrate
Synonyms:
  • Di-Lithium tartrate
Description:

Lithium tartrate is a lithium salt of the weak acid, tartaric acid. It is used as a cross-linking agent in pharmaceuticals and other organic materials. Lithium tartrate is also used to inhibit corrosion of metals. In addition, it can be used as an active ingredient in some drugs, including phosphotungstic acid, which inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause infectious diseases. The carbon source for this compound includes wood charcoal, coconut shell charcoal, and coal tar pitch. The synthesis method for lithium tartrate involves mixing l-tartaric acid with sodium carbonate and heating it to produce lithium carbonate and sodium tetraborate. This process requires low energy input (kinetic) and produces a product that contains group P2 elements (potassium).
