Description:

Levitide is a fatty acid amide molecule that is used as a diagnostic agent. It has been shown to be active against β-lactamase-producing bacteria, such as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and may also be effective in treating inflammatory diseases. Levitide binds to the beta-amino group of amino acids, which are found in bacterial cell walls. This binding prevents the cell wall from forming properly and results in cell death. Levitide is not active against Gram-positive bacteria because they lack beta-amino groups on their peptidoglycan cell walls.
