Lithium tetrafluoroaluminate is a compound that has the chemical formula LiAlF4. It is made by reacting aluminium with hydrogen fluoride and lithium fluoride in the presence of an organic solvent, such as toluene or xylene. Lithium tetrafluoroaluminate is used as a catalyst in organic reactions because it can be easily processed, provides high yields and has low toxicity.
