Description:
3-methylbenzyl cyanide is a synthetic compound that has been developed as a potential anticancer agent. It is an analog of the natural product benzaldehyde and has been found to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro. 3-Methylbenzyl cyanide inhibits the proliferation of MCF-7 cells by inhibiting protein synthesis, leading to cell death. The depressant activity of this molecule may be due to its ability to react with amines, such as histamine or serotonin, which are important neurotransmitters in the brain.
