Product Information
- Pyridine, 3-methoxy-
- beta-Methoxypyridine
- β-Methoxypyridine
3-Methoxypyridine is a colorless, crystalline solid. It is an activated hydroxy group that has a hydroxyl group as well as a methoxy group. 3-Methoxypyridine can be used to synthesize epoxides and acyl halides, which are used in the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pesticides. 3-Methoxypyridine can also be used to synthesize chlorinated products such as 3-, 4-, or 5-chloropyridines. The purity of the product is determined by spectrometry and impurities are removed by purification techniques such as recrystallization or distillation. Impurity groups can be detected using photoelectron spectroscopy or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. These methods allow for the detection of choride ions, which are often added during synthesis to prevent side reactions with other reactants.
