Product Information
Methyl-2-formyl-3,5-dimethoxybenzoate is a chloride ion sensor that is specific for the chloride ion. It binds to the chloride ion and changes its conformation in response to the presence of a chloride ion. This change in conformation causes an increase in fluorescence when exposed to light of a wavelength of 350 nm, which can be used as a signal. Methyl-2-formyl-3,5-dimethoxybenzoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens. It also inhibits the production of amines from lysine. The binding of methyl-2-formyl-3,5-dimethoxybenzoate to calcium ions may be useful for sensing calcium ions in biological systems.
