Methyl benzimidate HCl is a piperazine derivative that has been used as an antimicrobial agent in the treatment of protozoal infections. It binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which inhibits the transmission of nerve impulses, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite. Methyl benzimidate HCl has also been used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, although its mechanism of action is not fully understood. The quinoline derivatives are pharmacologically active compounds that have been used as pharmaceutical preparations for treating malaria and sleeping sickness. They inhibit proton transport across the cytoplasmic membrane, leading to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell death.
Methyl benzimidate HCl is also a component of a number of aromatic hydrocarbon reactions with benzoate esters or nitriles to form bicyclic heterocycles or nitrogen-containing heterocycles respectively. These products have important pharmacological properties such as receptor
