Product Information
- 5-Methyl-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole
- 5-Methyl-2,1,3-Benzoxadiazole
5-Methylbenzofurazan (5MBF) is a synthetic compound that has been used to study the interactions between chromatographic, thermolytic, and spectrometric properties. 5MBF has been shown to interact with halides by cleaving the bond between them. The reaction of 5MBF with acetonitrile results in cross-coupling, which is an important reaction in organic chemistry. 5MBF has been synthesized from benzofuran and methyliodide. It has a chemical structure consisting of a ring containing five carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. The molecule is thermally stable up to about 200°C but can be broken down by UV light or heat at higher temperatures. It also fluoresces brightly in acetonitrile solution.
