Description:

3-Methoxythiophene is a synthetic compound that has been used in the synthesis of polymerized materials. It has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation by preventing the synthesis of DNA and RNA. 3-Methoxythiophene can be synthesized by electropolymerization or polymerization in an organic solvent, or by heating anhydrous sodium in the presence of methane and oxygen. This product has optical properties similar to those of polystyrene and is useful for the production of polymer films. The reaction requires an activation energy of approximately 100 kcal/mol, which is typical for polymerization reactions with this type of reactant.
