2-Methyl-1-pyrroline is a model compound for the study of amide bond formation. The molecule has been shown to be an effective catalyst in asymmetric synthesis, with high yields and no byproducts. In a reaction mechanism, 2-methyl-1-pyrroline is converted to an imine intermediate that then reacts with an amine nucleophile to form the desired product.
This product can also be used as a substrate for glutamate dehydrogenase, which converts it into glutamate. This process creates a neutral pH environment and does not require any additional reagents or catalysts.
