Description

(R)-(+)-alpha-Methoxy-alpha-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acid is a phenyl compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of Penicillium, a fungus that causes food spoilage. It also has been shown to have anti-tumour properties in carcinoma cell lines. The (R)-(+)-alpha-Methoxy-alpha-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acid can be synthesized from the commercially available phenylacetic acid and methoxyphenyllithium. The (R)-(+)-alpha-Methoxy-alpha-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acid was crystallized from dichloromethane and zirconium tetrachloride at -78°C with a dihedral angle of 27°.
