Description:

2-methyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]benzoic Acid is an industrial chemical that is used as a reagent in the preparation of other chemicals. 2-Methyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]benzoic Acid can be prepared by a chlorination reaction, amidation, and ring opening of 2-methyl-3-(4-hydroxy phenyl) benzoic acid. The yield from this reaction can be increased by using catalytic amounts of palladium on charcoal and hydrogen gas to reduce the nitro group in the product. This chemical can also be prepared by condensation of methyl acetoacetate with benzaldehyde in the presence of sodium ethoxide followed by hydrogenation, or by reacting 3,4 dinitrochlorobenzene with methyl acetoacetate in the presence of copper powder.
