3-Methylpiperidine is a synthetic chemical that belongs to the group of heterocyclic compounds. 3-Methylpiperidine has a low energy and is not reactive with chloride or amines. It can be synthesized from piperidine, which is obtained from coal tar or petroleum, by reacting it with methanol and hydrochloric acid. 3-Methylpiperidine has the potential to be an efficient hydrogen bond donor in proteins and may have applications in molecular modeling.
3-Methylpiperidine has been shown to bind to model proteins, such as Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) in order to study protein structure and function. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy data analysis showed that 3-methylpiperidine binds to the amide carbonyl of BSA at high concentrations and modifies its vibrational properties.
