Description

9-Methyl-9H-carbazole-3-carboxylic acid is a carbazole that has been synthesized from the combination of 2,4,6-trimethylphenol and 4,4'-dimethoxybiphenyl. It is an electron acceptor molecule with a potentiodynamic polarization efficiency of 0.36% and a chloride ion adsorption efficiency of 1.2%. 9-Methyl-9H-carbazole-3-carboxylic acid has been shown to have antibacterial properties against Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, while also being active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains in vitro. The FTIR spectra indicate that the carbazole has strong interactions with amines and electron acceptors.
