2-Methylpyridine-3-carbaldehyde (2MPCA) is a reactive molecule that has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in vitro. 2MPCA may be a potential drug candidate because it is an indole alkaloid, which is known to have cytotoxic and apoptotic properties. It also inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential and prevents the assembly of cytoskeletal proteins, leading to cell death. 2MPCA has demonstrated anti-cancer activity against human prostate cancer cells by inhibiting the ATPase activity of complex I of the electron transport chain. The mechanism of action may be through inhibition of mitochondrial function and induction of oxidative stress.
