Description

2-(2-Methylphenoxy)propanoic acid is an enantioselective herbicide that inhibits the activity of microbial enzymes, such as esterases and hydrolases. It has been shown to be effective against a variety of weeds and environmental microbes. The compound has been shown to be effective in controlling the growth of bacteria, fungi, and algae. 2-(2-Methylphenoxy)propanoic acid is used in the production of propylene glycol. This compound is also present as an impurity in various other substances, including ammonium acetate, dichlorprop, and herbicides. The compound may be toxic to humans if ingested or inhaled in sufficient quantities.
