Product Information
9-Methyl-9H-carbazole-3-carbaldehyde is an isomeric molecule that has been shown to exhibit antimycobacterial activity. It reacts with tyrosinase, a key enzyme in the production of melanin, and its derivatives. The reaction between 9MCCA and tyrosinase results in the formation of fluorescent products, which can be detected by fluorescence spectroscopy. The fluorophore can also be used as a diagnostic reagent for tuberculosis. 9MCCA has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by reacting with amines on the bacterial cell surface to form fluorescent compounds. This reaction prevents attachment of mycobacteria to the host cell surface, thereby inhibiting their growth.
