- Methyl 2-amino-5-methyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)thiophene-3-carboxylate
Methyl 2-amino-5-methyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)thiophene-3-carboxylate is a chiral compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of adenylyl cyclase and phosphodiesterases. It also inhibits the activity of renal epithelial cyclic nucleotides, which are important for regulating electrolyte balance, fluid volume, and blood pressure. Methyl 2-amino-5-methyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)thiophene-3-carboxylate has been shown to have beneficial effects in patients with kidney disease. This drug is not selective for either type of cyclic nucleotide because it binds to both types. It is used as a treatment for polycystic kidney disease and related toxins in the gastrointestinal tract such as diarrheas.
