Product Information

Name:
1-(5-Methylthien-2-yl)butan-1-one
Synonyms:
  • 1-Butanone, 1-(5-Methyl-2-Thienyl)-
Description:

1-(5-Methylthien-2-yl)butan-1-one (MTB) is a heterocyclic ketone that has been shown to be an efficient, substoichiometric hydrogenation catalyst. It is synthesized by the reaction of an aryl ketone with a boron compound in the presence of a base and solvent. The synthesis of MTB involves the formation of a diketone intermediate, which is reduced to MTB. This reaction can be carried out in one step or in two steps. The first step involves the formation of an enolate from the ketone using lithium diisopropylamide (LDA). This enolate reacts with borane dimethylsulfide (BMS) to form an unstable 2-enolimine that can spontaneously rearrange to form MTB. In the second step, MTB can react with an electrophilic reagent such as acetic acid to form
