3-Methoxypyridin-2-ol is a heterocyclic compound that can be synthesized from 2-chloro-3-nitropyridine. It is a nucleophile and can react with an acid chloride to form a substituted pyridine. This reaction is called the Buchwald amidation reaction. 3-Methoxypyridin-2-ol has been used in large scale preparations, such as the synthesis of 5-bromo-2-chloropyridine, which is a precursor molecule for the production of tetracyclines. This heterocycle has also been shown to undergo substitution reactions at various positions on the ring.
