Description

3-(Methylamino)butan-1-ol is an oxime that is used as a chemical reagent and anesthetic. It can be prepared by the reaction of crotonic acid and methyl acetoacetate. The oxime is then heated to produce 3-(methylamino)butan-1-ol, which is then hydrolyzed to form methylamine. 3-(Methylamino)butan-1-ol has been used in the past as an additive to petroleum products for use in autoclaves, vacuums, and other high temperature processes. It has also been used as a solvent for cellulose acetate and nitrocellulose.
