4-Methyl-2-(methylamino)-1,3-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid is an ethyl ester of the amino acid methionine. It is a substrate for methylation and deacetylation reactions and can be converted to acetic acid by acylation. 4-Methyl-2-(methylamino)-1,3-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid is an intermediate in the synthesis of anilides.
