Methyl 2-[(chloroacetyl)amino]benzoate is a hydrophobic drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA. It can be used for the treatment of cancer, and has been shown to be effective against cervical cancer cells. Methyl 2-[(chloroacetyl)amino]benzoate is a prodrug that is converted into its active form, ciprofloxacin, in vivo by cytochrome P450 enzymes. This compound has also been shown to induce apoptosis in human leukemia cells through interactions with the hydrophobic regions of the nucleus.
