5-Methoxy-3-methyl-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid is a chiral compound of the bisindole alkaloid family. It is synthesized by coupling of the corresponding alcohol and acid chloride, followed by reduction with hydrogen and sodium borohydride. The enantiomer of 5-methoxy-3-methylindole 2 carboxylic acid is Sarpagine, a natural product found in Alstonia species. The oxygenated group on the indole rings in this molecule may contribute to its biological activity.
