6-Methoxy-4-oxo-4H-chromene-3-carbaldehyde is an anti-cancer drug that inhibits the synthesis of proteins. It is a nonsteroidal compound and has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin by inhibiting the enzyme hydroxylase, which is involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin. 6-Methoxy-4-oxo-4H- chromene 3 -carbaldehyde has been shown to be active against cancerous prostate cells, with no toxicity to normal cells. The drug interacts with a pharmacophore in the cell membrane, which may be due to its hydrophobic nature. The hydrogen bond acceptor groups on the molecule are important for this interaction. This drug also inhibits the growth of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics.
