4-Methyl-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-amine is a non-ribosomal peptide antibiotic. It inhibits the synthesis of molecules by binding to the active site on the peptide synthetase enzyme. This type of inhibition is reversible. 4-Methyl-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-amine has been shown to be active against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The molecular structure of 4-methyl 1,2,5 oxadiazol 3 amine is similar to sulfamic acid and diaminofurazan. These two drugs are known inhibitors of peptide synthetase enzymes and are used as antibiotics in medicine.
