1-Methyl-1H-indole-5-carbonitrile is a synthetic anticancer agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to DNA. It has been shown to be cytotoxic in cell lines, and is an inhibitor of protein synthesis. This drug can also inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in cells. 1-Methyl-1H-indole-5-carbonitrile can be synthesized using a number of different strategies, including pyrazol, imidazole, and cyclopenta. The drug binds to DNA in the form of a covalent bond, inhibiting the replication and transcription of DNA. In addition, 1-methyl indole carbonitrile has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and preventing the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids.
