Product Information
- 2-pyrrolidinone
- 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-
1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)pyrrolidin-2-one is an inhibitor of the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, which converts tyrosine to L-DOPA. This mechanism of inhibition leads to the formation of an covalent adduct with tyrosine and the piperidine residue. The covalent adduct inhibits the enzymatic activity by preventing access to the active site on the enzyme. 1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)pyrrolidin-2-one has been shown to have antidepressant effects in animal models and may be useful as a dietary supplement for depression. It is also thought that this drug may function by increasing levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.
