It is a chlorinated and brominated compound that is produced by the reaction of 2-methylpyridine with chlorine or bromine in acid solution. This compound can be used to synthesize other pyridine derivatives. The reaction of 2-methyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine hydrochloride with chlorine in acid solution produces 2,6 dichloroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine.
