Description

1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)butane-1,3-dione is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against cancer. It binds to and inhibits the zinc-containing enzyme chloride channel (ZCC). This inhibition leads to an increased concentration of chloride ions in cells, which decreases the rate of cell proliferation. The photophysical properties of 1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)butane-1,3-dione are dependent on the metal ion present. The reaction time is also dependent on the metal ion present. Ammonium nitrate has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of this compound. X-ray crystal structures have been obtained for this molecule in the presence of ammonium nitrate. Imaging techniques such as electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy have been used to study these compounds.END>
