Product Information
- pentanoic acid
- 4-methyl-4-nitro-
4-Methyl-4-nitropentanoic acid is a quaternary ammonium compound and an intermediate in the synthesis of methyl acrylate. It is synthesized from 2-nitropropane by catalyzed hydrolysis with hydroxide, followed by methylation of the nitro group to form 4-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene. This reaction can be performed with either ammonium hydroxide or acrylate. The quaternization reaction with trimethylamine leads to 4-methyl-4-nitropentanoic acid.
