1-[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-indole-2-carbaldehyde is a fluorescent organic base that is used in organic synthesis. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of 4,5-dihydro-1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-indole (compound A). Compound A has been shown to have bifunctional properties and to be cytotoxic against a variety of kidney cancer cells. The compound also has high uptake rates by the kidneys and can be metabolized into glycine. 1-[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-indole-2-carbaldehyde can also be used as an intermediate for the production of esters that are structurally similar to the amino acid methionine and activate certain enzymes.
