Product Information

Name:
1-Methylproline
Synonyms:
  • proline
  • 1-methyl-
  • Proline, 1-methyl
Description:

1-Methylproline is a non-proteinogenic amino acid that is synthesized in vivo by the addition of an acetyl group to the amino group of proline. 1-Methylproline is found in the urine of rodents, and has been detected in human urine at high concentrations in obese individuals. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth through hydrogen-bonding interactions. 1-Methylproline also interacts with collagen and ns3 protease, which may be responsible for its ability to inhibit microbial metabolism. It has been used as a chemical probe for studying the structure of collagen molecules and for identifying specific sites on proteins where steric interactions occur.
