Methyl 3-oxopiperazin-2-ylacetate is a chiral, natural amino acid methyl ester. It is a synthetic compound that has been found to react with ketones and form new cyclic compounds. Methyl 3-oxopiperazin-2-ylacetate also reacts with cyanamides in the presence of sodium ethoxide to produce new nitrogen heterocycles. This compound can be used as an intermediate for other organic synthesis reactions involving esters.
