7-Methoxy-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-1-benzazepin-2-one is an oxime that has been synthesized by the reaction of 7-methoxybenzaldehyde with hydroxylamine. The oxime undergoes a regioselective intramolecular cyclization to form the bicyclic ring system and produce the tetrahydroisoquinoline. The oxime has been shown to be a good catalyst for synthetic reactions as it can isomerize in a wide range of conditions and at different temperatures. It also shows high yields and acid catalysts have been shown to improve this yield.
