This compound has been shown to be an efficient sorbent for the removal of phenanthrene, desorption of quinones, and recovery of chrysene from soil samples. 1-Methyl-4-nitronaphthalene can be customized by changing the solvent or filter size to optimize the process for the desired sample preparation. Sample preparation using this compound includes filtration and dispersive liquid-liquid extraction. 1-Methyl-4-nitronaphthalene can also be used in gas chromatography with frequencies up to 450 MHz.
