Product Information

Name:
1-Methyl-2,6-dioxo-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid
Synonyms:
  • 4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid
  • 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-1-methyl-2,6-dioxo-
Description:

1-Methyl-2,6-dioxo-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid (1MDP) is a proton stabilizer that enhances the rate of reactions involving carboxylate anions. It is used in organic synthesis as a substrate for the generation of methylene carbanions and active methylene compounds. 1MDP has been shown to enhance the rate of reactions with metaperiodate in the presence of ultraviolet light and orotic acid, yielding uncharged products. 1MDP also has been shown to increase the stability of both aromatic and aliphatic carboxylates.
