Methyl 4-methyl-3,5-dinitrobenzoate is a synthetic molecule that is used as a starting material for the synthesis of lichen substances. It was first isolated from lichens in 1875 by Gustav Wallroth and named psoromic acid. This compound has functional groups such as phenol, ethers, and isopropylphenol. The compound also contains two methyl groups. There are two nitro groups on the benzene ring, which makes this substance an aromatic nitro derivative of benzoic acid.
