2-Mercapto-3-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one is an orally active molecule that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects on dopaminergic neurons. It is a synthetic compound that acts by promoting mitochondrial biogenesis and increasing the production of dopamine in dopaminergic neurons, which may be due to its ability to activate both tyrosine kinase and phospholipase C signaling pathways. 2-Mercapto-3-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one has also been shown to have a protective effect on dopaminergic neurons in mice with Parkinson's disease. This drug has not yet been tested in humans.
