1-Methoxy-2-naphthoic acid is an ionizable, functional compound that reacts with hydrogen to form a chelate ring. The reaction mechanism for this process is intramolecular hydrogen bonding. 1-Methoxy-2-naphthoic acid can bind to dopamine receptors and has been shown to block the action of dopamine in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake. It also reacts with Grignard reagents and nucleophiles, which are molecules that react with electrophiles. 1-Methoxy-2-naphthoic acid is a small molecule that has been shown to have antihistamine properties and inhibit the growth of bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
