Product Information
- 1-naphthalenecarboxylic acid
- 6-methoxy-
- 1-Naphthalenecarboxylic Acid, 6-Methoxy-
6-Methoxy-1-naphthoic acid (6MNA) is a naphthoic acid that is soluble in organic solvents. It is used as a precursor to other compounds, such as 6-hydroxy-1-naphthoic acid and methyl esters. The compound can be manufactured with an alkali metal and chlorobenzene by the Friedel-Crafts reaction. This process involves the addition of a chloride to the organic solvent, followed by the addition of sulfate ions to form an insoluble salt. The salt is then filtered out, leaving 6MNA in solution.
6MNA has been shown to have antimicrobial effects against c. glabrata, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis or protein synthesis in this organism.
