N-(4-Methoxybenzoyl)glycine is a synthetic analog of the natural amino acid, glycine. It is an active compound that is used to study the metabolism of glycine and its effects on peptide hormones. N-(4-Methoxybenzoyl)glycine has been shown to be orally active in CD-1 mice, with a half-life of about 30 minutes. It also possesses pharmacokinetic properties such as a rapid rate of absorption and high bioavailability in mice. N-(4-Methoxybenzoyl)glycine is metabolized by side chain cleavage, which produces hippuric acid as one of its metabolites. This product has been shown to have no significant effect on brain cholinergic receptors or other neurotransmitters.
