2-Methylquinoline-3,4-dicarboxylic acid is a primary amine that can be prepared by refluxing 2-methylquinoline with potassium acetoacetic acid. The reaction of this compound with piperidine gives the homolog 2,2'-dimethylquinoline. This compound may be converted to a salt of potassium. The structure of this compound has not been determined. It is used as an intermediate in the preparation of other compounds and has been found to be a potent cancer chemotherapeutic agent and can induce apoptosis in cells.
